The PALS Sumer 2021 Programs application has launched, and our program directors are preparing for what will likely be remembered as the most unique season in our history. Much of what you’ll experience at PALS this summer will be familiar: one-to-one pairings, thoughtfully planned activities, and opportunities to make meaningful connections; others may seem a bit out of the ordinary:
In-Person Program Venues:
Typically, PALS hosts week-long, overnight camps at universities across the country. This season, the majority of our programs will take place at traditional summer camp settings. A few factors informed this choice:
The majority of our university partners are unsure of their ability to host groups this summer. With reduced on-campus living capacity, complex hybrid course models for students, and ever-changing academic calendars, they must prioritize the needs of their students at this time.
Traditional camp environments provide greater privacy from the general public and make effective social distancing more achievable.
In today’s unique climate, traditional campgrounds offer more activities in which to safely participate. While each is unique, some venues are offering activities like swimming, zip lining, and mini golf!
Social Distancing and Masking Requirements
The health and safety of our participants is our number one priority and we’ll be taking a number of precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
All participants will undergo a health screening upon arrival.
All participants will be required to wear a mask except when they are eating, drinking, or swimming.
Team sizes will be small and teams will not intermingle.
Virtual Programming Opportunities
We recognize the barriers associated with traveling to in-person day-long programs. For this reason, we’re hosting a fully virtual week of programming from August 7-14.
If you’ve about had it with Zoom, I hear you! However, virtual programming this spring has been an absolute blast. But don’t take it from me! One participant remarked, “The virtual camp has many advantages and is incredible to finish each day of the week with the fun of PALS.”
If you’re still feeling skeptical about virtual programming, consider the VIPS who ran the virtual activities this spring. Each Tuesday, participants were treated to celebrity guest, Stephen Harvey, for a spirited, occasionally heated, round of Family Feud. (It’s me.)
Despite the peculiarities of this summer, PALS is committed to bringing our community together, creating opportunities for meaningful connection, and hosting the most fun programs we possibly can. We’re grateful for your kindness and support over the past year and couldn’t be more excited to reconnect with you this summer.
