We often ask members of our PALS Family "Why PALS?" to learn how our mission has impacted their lives. In honor of our recent Leadership Application launch, we asked Abe Patterson, Program Lead for PALS Los Angeles in 2022, to share what PALS means to him.
Dear PALS Family,
Hey guys, it’s Abe here from PALS and I want to tell you a little bit about myself, about PALS, and why PALS is so special to me. My journey with PALS began back in 2018 when I went to my first camp up in Cleveland, Ohio. Never did I think this one week was gonna change my life forever. PALS is so important to me because I don’t know another place where I feel more comfortable being my truest self and never having the fear of being singled out or being laughed at for the things we do at camp. That’s very important because everybody can feel the same way. It’s a judgment-free zone - you’ll never be singled out and you’ll always be loved.
Being with PALS and being a leader with PALS is very important to me. I love being able to see all these relationships develop and grow over time. With being a leader, it is difficult, you do have to put in those extra hours. It's volunteer hours, but you have a great staff behind you and great support. They’ll be there for any questions or difficulties you run into.
Coming up, December 1st the leadership application opens up, so be on the lookout for that. It all runs through the month of December, December 31st is the last day so make sure you get those in. We can’t wait to see you guys next summer!
PALS Love,
Abe Patterson
