Why PALS: The Friendships Created During Camp

BY AMIRA & LEANDRA

PALS Participants

We often ask members of our PALS Community "Why PALS?" to learn how our mission has impacted their lives. We are eager to kick off PALS Summer 2023 next month! PALS Participants are looking forward to seeing new and old friends. Learn about Amira & Leandra's friendship formed last summer at PALS DC!

"It is impossible not to have fun when Leandra is there! And although we talk almost every week, I could not miss an opportunity to see her."

Dear PALS Family,

Amira:
My name is Amira and I am a PALS Peer. Leandra and I were paired together last summer! I'm really excited to return to PALS this summer! What keeps me coming back to PALS is simply the friendship. We form such genuine connections during the week that it is just impossible to refuse to go when you know your friend is there! For me, the genuine friendship I formed at PALS was with Leandra. It is impossible not to have fun when Leandra is there! And although we talk almost every week, I could not miss an opportunity to see her. She truly inspired me to be like her; kind, compassionate, and patient. She taught me to see love in every situation, enjoy, and laugh every day.

Leandra:
I am Leandra and I am a PALS Partner. PALS means friends, fun, and freedom where I can be myself, with Amira by my side to help me and be happy.

Amira:
PALS was a place of joy, love, warmth, and acceptance for me last summer, so why not PALS? I enjoyed every activity while building relationships with amazing people. As soon as I heard about PALS, I was instantly interested in their mission since I like to learn new things, and I aspire to improve myself every day. PALS promotes inclusivity, helps to inspire a world where everyone belongs, and transforms lives for the better. It did exactly that for me. Thanks PALS!

Leandra:
I look forward to seeing my friends, making new friends, and doing lots of fun activities at PALS. It's the best time of my life.

PALS Love,
Leandra & Amira

Pairing participants one-to-one is core to the mission of PALS. As Amira and Leandra shared, the friendships formed extend beyond the program week. We can't wait for first-time and returning participants to build friendships that inspire a world of belonging. There are still spots available for volunteers. Share this link today with a friend who might want to experience PALS this summer!
