The Magic of PALS Meets The Magic of Improv

BY COURTNEY MICKENS

PALS Program Manager

It is always a treat for PALS to welcome a new Partner. This Summer, PALS Cleveland was excited to welcome Henry Snow to his first PALS Program. Not only did Henry bring his unique energy and enthusiasm to our week-long program at John Carroll University, but he also shared the legacy of his family's transformative work in the developmental disabilities community. Henry is the son of Ellen and Rob Snow, the founders of The Improvaneer Method Way. This innovative nonprofit harnesses the power of improvisation to enhance social, workplace, and life skills in individuals with developmental disabilities. Rob Snow, the CEO of The Improvaneer Method Way, captures the spirit of their program: “The Improvaneer Method Way focuses on supporting our mission while maintaining immense respect, admiration, and support for the individuals utilizing the program. At all times, we will create a positive learning atmosphere that incorporates fun, humor, and discipline into the achievement and ultimate practice of this skill.  No one who participates in this program will ever be forced to do something they don’t want to do or aren’t ready to do, and they will never be told to do something that scares or embarrasses them. We will work to understand each individuals’ abilities and thresholds of discovery and enjoyment of the program to provide the best experience possible.”

One of the most memorable moments of PALS Cleveland was hosting The Improvaneer Method for an immersive workshop. Our participants were introduced to the world of improv, learning some of the foundational skills of this form of art. The real magic unfolded when, after the workshop, each team had the chance to showcase what they had learned. Taking center stage, they performed before an enthusiastic audience comprised of JCU’s staff and faculty. It was a touching display of individual potential and creative power.

As we reflect on this summer’s magic, we extend our gratitude to Henry for being a part of our PALS family. We are equally thankful to The Improvaneer Method for generously sharing their talents with our participants. We truly hope that our paths continue to cross in the future!
